The Program of Studies

The English School High School offers a well-balanced program of studies according to the Finnish high school curriculum, including all national compulsory and in-depth courses. Of course we also have a selection of courses only offered at our school. You’re welcome to attend our information days, or contact us by phone or e-mail: Guidance Counselor Otto Moilanen contact info.

  • The English program is unique in Finland. The courses will offer you an in-depth view of the Anglo-Saxon culture, from Shakespeare to debates, from mythology to media. We have 10 compulsory English courses, three in-depth courses (one of them AP), as well as Screen Writing workshop
  • In addition to the nationwide compulsory courses in Finnish and Finnish Literature you must complete one of the school’s own required, elective courses. Of course, it is allowed to take more elective courses, too.
  • If your mother tongue is not Finnish or Swedish, you may study Finnish as a second language.  A good command of the Finnish language is necessary, because in different subjects some courses are taught in Finnish and the national Matriculation Examinations are taken in Finnish.
  • The additional courses in English and Finnish do not burden you, since you are allowed to drop compulsory courses in other subjects, but no more than eight. However, in each other subject you must complete at least 50 % of the compulsory courses. The required, total number of courses is 75, like in other schools.
  • French (B2), German (B2), Spanish (B3), Italian (B3).
  • SAT courses in English and Math.
  • An ambitious AP course in English, Mathematics, Physics and History.
  • Additional challenges in Research Writing course (History) and Philosophical Logic (Philosophy).
  • Strong Music program: ten courses.
  • Complete nationwide program in Visual Arts.
